FAQs
Families in Kimberley and the neighbouring communities of Bulwell, Bilborough, and Strelley come to us here at The Old Church on Main Street. If you live a little further away, we may still be able to help, so please do give us a call on 0115 795 2000.
You can. Gillotts has funeral homes in Eastwood, Heanor, Selston, and Stapleford, as well as here in Kimberley, and it is entirely your choice which one you use. Whichever you choose, your loved one will be cared for there by a team that shares the same standards and works together every day.
Yes, help is always at hand. The Kimberley funeral home is open to visitors from 9 am to 4.30 pm, Monday to Friday. That said, our funeral directors take calls through the night and at weekends, too. Whenever you need us, please ring 0115 795 2000.
Kirstie, our Funeral Arranger and Conductor, is the person you will get to know at our Kimberley funeral home. She will help you plan each part of the funeral, and because she is also a conductor, she can lead the funeral on the day itself. Behind her is a Gillotts team of more than 20 people, ready to help whenever you need us.
We are based in The Old Church, Main Street, Kimberley, NG16 2LL, where Main Street meets Broomhill Road. Our car park is on the Broomhill Road side. One tip for sat navs and Google Maps: please enter NG16 2LY, because our postal postcode points to the wrong spot.
We can set off whenever you are ready for us, at any hour. If your loved one has passed away at home, the death needs to be confirmed first. For an expected death, that means contacting the GP or, out of hours, NHS 111. For a sudden or unexpected death, please dial 999. Then, call us on 0115 795 2000, and we will let you know when to expect us. If your loved one passed away in hospital or a care home, the staff there will explain the first steps. Our guide to what to do when someone dies covers the rest.
We would be glad to. Talking things through in familiar surroundings can feel much easier, so just let us know when it suits you, and we will come to your home. If you would rather visit us at The Old Church, or speak by phone or video call, that is completely fine, too.
We do. Families of every faith, and those with no religious beliefs, come to us for help. Some want a church service with hymns and prayers, while others prefer a gentle, non-religious farewell or a celebration of life. Kirstie will listen to what matters to you and make sure any customs or timings are respected wherever possible.
We do. For families who would prefer something simple, a direct cremation takes place quietly, without a service or mourners. Many families then plan their own gathering or memorial later on. Kirstie can explain our two options and what each costs, and you will find more details on our direct cremation page.
They are. With a prepaid plan, the decisions and the cost are settled in advance, so there is less for your family to think about at a difficult time. Our plans are provided through Ecclesiastical Planning Services. The company is overseen by the Financial Conduct Authority. Gillotts will look after the funeral itself. We are happy to answer your questions on 0115 795 2000, and there is more information on our prepaid funeral plans page.
Every funeral director works in their own way, so we can only tell you about ours. Our roots go back to 1867, and we have been part of Main Street life in Kimberley since 1997. Today, our funeral home is in The Old Church, a former Methodist church we carefully renovated in 2015. It now gives families a calm and welcoming place to visit. Kirstie will be with you from the first conversation to the funeral itself, so you will always know who to turn to.
Becoming part of the A.W. Lymn Group in 2026, one of the East Midlands’ most esteemed family-owned funeral providers, enables Gillotts to offer families in Kimberley and neighboring areas an even broader range of choices alongside compassionate, dedicated support. Whether you need immediate help or would simply like to discuss your options, our team is always here to assist you.
