FAQs
From our funeral home on Nottingham Road, we look after families in Eastwood and the surrounding areas. This includes those in Newthorpe, Giltbrook, Brinsley, and Awsworth. Our help reaches further, too, across Broxtowe, Erewash, and the Amber Valley. If you are not sure whether your home is covered, ring us on 01773 713484, and we will gladly let you know.
Absolutely. Our funeral homes in Heanor, Kimberley, Selston, and Stapleford are all open to you. Some families find one of these easier to reach, perhaps because relatives live nearby. Just tell us which you would prefer. That is where your loved one will rest, and where we can meet you to make the arrangements.
Yes. Whatever the hour, you can reach our funeral directors on 01773 713484, every day of the week, so you will never be left without help. If you would like to visit in person, the Eastwood funeral home is open from 9 am to 5 pm on weekdays and from 9 am to 12.30 pm on Saturday mornings. It is closed to visitors on Sundays. For immediate assistance following the death of a loved one, we are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Joanne Hutsby, our Senior Funeral Director, leads the Eastwood team. Working alongside her is Claire Jenkinson, our Funeral Arranger and Administrator, who will help you plan every detail. Alison Strutt manages our office, with help from Julie McCarthy, our Office Administrator. Together, they keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes.
You will find us at 154 Nottingham Road, Eastwood, Nottingham, NG16 3GG. There are on-street spaces right outside the door, and if these are taken, the pay-and-display car park on nearby Oxford Street costs £1 for 24 hours.
As quickly as you need us, at any hour of the day or night. When someone passes away at home, their GP (or NHS 111 if the surgery is closed) first needs to confirm the death. If it was sudden or unexpected, please ring 999 instead. Once that has happened, and you have had the time you need, call us on 01773 713484. We will tell you when to expect our team, who will collect your loved one and gently bring them into our care. Our step-by-step guide explains what comes next.
Of course. Our Eastwood team can come to your home to arrange the funeral with you if you wish. If it is easier, you are welcome to visit us on Nottingham Road, or we can talk by phone or video call. There is also no need to wait for the death to be registered. We can begin discussing funeral wishes and then set a date for the funeral once the paperwork is completed.
Yes, every family is welcome, whatever they believe. Our Eastwood team can arrange a religious service led by a minister or faith leader. We can also arrange a non-religious ceremony with a celebrant, or a celebration of life that is designed to feel more like a meaningful tribute than a sombre ritual. If your traditions call for particular customs or timings, let us know as soon as you can so we can plan around them.
Yes, and we offer two direct cremation packages. With a direct cremation, there is no service at the crematorium and mourners in attendance. This is a simple and low-cost option, and leaves you free to remember your loved one in your own way and in your own time. Afterwards, the ashes can be scattered in the ashes in the Garden of Remembrance at the crematorium, or returned to you. Our direct cremation page sets out what each option includes, and we are happy to explain the costs.
Yes. Many people find comfort in planning ahead, knowing their wishes are written down, and financial provision has been made towards the costs. Our funeral plans are provided by Ecclesiastical Planning Services. This firm is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Our own team will then carry out the funeral, just as you planned. To find out more, call in to Gillotts on Nottingham Road, ring 01773 713484, or visit our prepaid funeral plans page.
We would never speak for other funeral directors, but we can tell you what families can expect from us. Joanne Hutsby’s family have looked after Eastwood families since the 1970s. Joanne now leads our Eastwood team, continuing a Gillotts tradition that began in 1867. Our team are local people who know Eastwood well, and many families return to us generation after generation. Whatever you need, we will always take the time to listen.
Joining the A.W. Lymn Group in 2026, one of the most respected family funeral groups across the East Midlands, allows Gillotts to provide families in Eastwood and nearby communities with an expanded selection of options and dedicated care. Whether you require immediate assistance or simply wish to explore your choices, our team is always ready to support you.
